Elizabeth (Ryan) Whiteway (1846-1922)

Charles Sims was born on May 3, 1846, in Hobart to Job Sims and Magdalene Grayson. He married Elizabeth Ryan on February 20, 1864, in Bothwell. Elizabeth, born on June 26, 1846, was the daughter of Joseph Ryan and Ellen Wigmore. She adopted the surname Whiteway when her mother married Robert Whiteway in 1848. The couple settled in Bothwell, where Charles worked as a shepherd. They had ten children - Ellen Magdalene (1864), Charles Wigmore (1867), Louisa Emily (1869), Arthur Edward (1871), Edward Bowden (1873), Lucy Kate (1875), William Robert (1876), Mary Elizabeth (1880), Alice Mary (1883), Henry Theodore (1885), Frances Gertrude (1887), and Frank Clyde (1890). The Sims family faced hardships, including the tragic drowning death of Lucy Jackman in 1873, which deeply affected Elizabeth. They lived in Bothwell for most of their lives, and Charles continued his work as a shepherd while Elizabeth took on domestic duties. Their children grew up, with several becoming involved in local events, farming, and even serving in World War I. Charles Sims passed away on April 8, 1926, at age 79, and was buried in Bothwell Cemetery. Elizabeth Sims died on January 11, 1922, at age 75, and was also buried in Bothwell Cemetery.
