Bibliography of Sources

Charles Hallett, born about 1827 in England, settled in Tasmania by the mid-1850s and became a respected farmer in the Hollow Tree district. He married Elizabeth Baker on 3 January 1858 at St James’ Church, Montacute, and soon established their home at Glen Quoin. In the 1880s and 1890s, he occupied a substantial farming property of 1,280 acres. Elizabeth, born about 1825 in England, died at Glen Quoin in October 1899 and was buried at St James’ Cemetery, Montacute. Charles remained on the property into old age, appearing on the electoral roll as a farmer in 1914. He died at Glen Quoin in January 1916, aged nearly 90, and was buried beside his wife. Charles and Elizabeth had several children, including George Frederick (1858), Mary Elizabeth (1860), Charles (1862), and Ellen (1866).
