Bibliography of Sources

John Colbeck, born about 1787, and Elizabeth Murray, born about 1795, were English immigrants who arrived in Hobart on 30 September 1833 aboard the ship Ann with their first five children. John, a tailor by trade, was granted land on 9 July 1838 in Bothwell, where he became a prominent local figure. He served as a juror for an inquest in 1840 and was actively involved in community matters, including donating to the Scotch and Irish Relief Fund in 1847. He died on 19 July 1875, aged 88, and was buried in the public cemetery in Bothwell. After John's death, Elizabeth continued to reside in their High Street residence until her own death on 19 April 1885, at the age of 90. She was buried alongside her husband at the Bothwell Cemetery. Together, they had the following children: William (1819), Sarah Frances (1822), Rosina Elizabeth (1825), John Morris (1829), Hannah Maria (1833), Henry Charles (1835), George Ibbott (1838), and Sophia (1840).
