PLOUGHING MATCH. This annual match came off on Wednesday last, upon a piece of land belonging to Mr William North, within about a mile of the Township. The weather in the early part of the morning was cloudy, and throughout the day several cold sharp showers of rain fell, the result of which was that the attendance was not so numerous as upon previous years. Shortly after 9 o'clock nineteen Ploughs started, twelve for the Europeans' Prize and seven for the "Plough" for the Native Youths'... The following is a list of Prizes.

17 Nov 1859 - Harriet served as a witness at the marriage of Job Geard and Maria Blake at St Luke's Church in Bothwell. (5)
27 Feb 1862 - Harriet served as a witness at the marriage of Frederick John White and Euphemia Moyes at the Crown Inn, [1-8] Alexander St, Bothwell. (6)
17 Sep 1864 - Harriet served as a witness at the marriage of Thomas Jones and Euphemia Merry at [1-C2] Dalrymple St, Bothwell. (7)
1867 - James, an overseer, lived on the property, Cluny. (8)
11 Jul 1868 - Newspaper article.
BOTHWELL. A Board of Works meeting was now held; there were seven tenders for supplying and erecting the telegraph poles between Bothwell and Melton Mowbray, and the fortunate tenderers were Messrs James Moyes and Joseph Blake, price at the rate of 9s per pole; the highest tender was at 14s. Messrs Moyes and Blake also received the contract for the Blue Hill and Ouse Road, Mr Polkie for the work at the Jordan Bridge, and Mr Webb for some work on the Shannon Road. After other requisite business had been disposed of, the meeting broke up. The insulators and wires have been sent for to England, and are expected to arrive in the colony about December, when the apparatus will be fixed up under the immediate directions of the Inspector of Electric Telegraphs. 21 Oct 1869 - James Moyes, a 29-year-old bachelor and farmer, married Harriet North, a 25-year-old spinster, at St Luke's Church in Bothwell according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Church of England by Licence. Witnessed by Kezia Gaby and William North. (10)
MOYES-NORTH - On the 21st October, 1869, at St Luke's Church, Bothwell, by the Rev A Wayn, James, eldest son of Mr W Moyes, to Harriet, only daughter of Mr W North, Grantham, Bothwell. (11)
22 May 1871 - Harriet's father, William North, died in Battery Point at the age of 60 from erysipelas and was buried at Bothwell Cemetery on May 25. (12)

BOTHWELL. TESTIMONIAL TO MR QUODLING. Bothwell, 25th August, 1871.
To Mr Henry George Quodling, Superintendent of Police.
Sir, We have heard with regret that you have resigned the appointment of Superintendent of Police of this district. During the many years that you have had the supervision of our police you have faithfully and efficiently fulfilled the duties of your office, and though we regret the loss of your services, we consider that it is an act of justice on the part of the Government to give you the promotion you so well merit. The urbanity of your manners, and the example which you have always set in private life, have gained for you the esteem and respect of the whole district. We therefore beg your acceptance of the accompanying purse of sovereigns as a small token of our regal and good wishes for your future prosperity. (Signed)... James Moyes. (13)
26 Jun 1876 - James' father, William Moyes, a 73-year-old licensed victualler, died in Bothwell from decay of nature, and was buried at Bothwell Cemetery on June 29. (14)
19 Mar 1878 - [1-C2] Dalrymple St. James Moyes (occupier), Thomas Gaby (owner), butcher's shop, annual rateable value £2. (15)
14 Sep 1878 - James' mother, Jessie (Taylor) Moyes, died in South Bridgewater at the age of 60 from decay of nature, and was buried at Bothwell Cemetery on September 18. (16)
25 Feb 1879 - [1-23.2] Alexander St. James Moyes (occupier), Henry Hurley (owner), house, butcher's shop, annual rateable value £20. (17)
6 Sep 1880 - Bothwell Police Office. James served as the foreman during the inquest of George Gray, who came to his death from exposure to the cold. (18)
19 Dec 1881 - Bothwell Police Office. James served as a juror during the inquest of Alexander Timmins, who came to his death from drowning in the River Clyde. (19)
27 Dec 1881 - Harriet's mother, Sarah (Bowden) North, died at Grantham in Bothwell at the age of 58 from an abscess on the lungs, as reported by James on December 29. She was buried at Bothwell Cemetery on December 29. (20)

14 Apr 1884 - [2-32.1] Priory, Wentworth St. James served as a juror during the inquest of Nathaniel Paul Allison, who came to his death from being of unsound mind when he cut his throat from which he ultimately died. (22)

10 Jan 1887 - Bothwell Police Office. James served as a juror during the inquest of John Shaw, who came to his death while being temporarily of unsound mind and did kill himself with a razor. (26)
1 Mar 1889 - James was registered as a shareholder owning 120 shares in The Campbell's Reward Gold Mining Company. (27)
17 Aug 1889 - [2-35] Clydeville, Logan St. Catherine (Curtin) Andrews and Charles Edward Andrews conveyed the 18 acre, 2 rood, 24 perch property, to James Moyes for 5 shillings, paid to Catherine, and £615 paid to William Lambert Dobson (the mortgagor). (28)

6 Dec 1892 - James Moyes died in Bothwell at the age of 51 from chronic convulsions, as reported by undertaker, Charles Albert Nichols, on December 7. He was buried at Bothwell Cemetery on December 8. (34,35)

AUCTION. Wednesday, May 15, 1895. Valuable Property at Bothwell. Westbrook Bros are favoured with instructions from the Curator of the estate of the late Mr James Moyes to sell by auction at the Exchange Mart, Collins-street, on Wednesday, May 15, at 11.30 sharp, the Valuable Property at Bothwell, comprising 18a 2r 24p of land, bounded by Wentworth, Logan, and River streets. There is an excellent dwelling house, also stable, coach house, and suitable outbuildings on the property.
Terms - 25 per cent, cash deposit, balance on completion. Reference - Messrs Dobson, Mitchell, and Allport, Solicitors, or the Auctioneers. (37)

12 Aug 1924 - Harriet signed her last Will and Testament. (39)
15 Nov 1924 - Harriet (North) Moyes died at [2-35] Clydeville, Logan St in Bothwell at the age of 81 and was buried at Bothwell Cemetery on November 18. (40,41)
MOYES - At her late residence, Clydeville, Bothwell, on Saturday, November 15, 1924, Harriet, relict of the late James Moyes, in her 82nd year. (42)
13 Jan 1925 - Harriet's real and personal estate was granted to William Allen North and Archibald Charles Evans as Trustees on Trust for her niece Beatrice Edith White, with a gross value sworn under £1191. (39)
