John Tod (1813-1877)
Mary Anderson (1821-1860)
John Tod (born about 1812, place unknown), son of Suetonius Tod, became a prominent landholder and community figure in Bothwell, Tasmania. On 20 February 1839, he married Mary Anderson, a native of Fife, Scotland. By then, he was resident at Forest Green, where he established a substantial estate comprising a house, farm, sheep-run, and up to 1,100 acres of land along the River Ouse. Despite a period of financial difficulty in the early 1840s, John later re-established himself and remained a significant property owner and local elector for several decades. He was actively involved in civic life, frequently signing public addresses, petitions, and testimonials, serving as a qualified juror, and participating in municipal affairs. John and Mary had nine children: Jemima (1842), Mary Cecilia (1843), Ellen Louisa (1844), Suetonius Anderson (1846), Catherine (1848), Margaret (1850), Robert Corney (1852), and Philip Henry (1855). Mary died prematurely on 13 June 1860 at Forest Green, aged 38, and was buried in the private cemetery on the property. John continued to reside at Forest Green until he died in 1877.
