Ellis Love (1825-1885)
Bridget O’Loughran (1833-1880)

Ellis Love was born about 1825 in Essex, England, and arrived in Van Diemen’s Land following a conviction in England in 1845. By the early 1850s, he was living in Bothwell, working as a labourer and sawyer, and moving frequently between rented houses in the township. On 29 August 1854, Ellis married Bridget O’Loughlan, born about 1833, in Hobart. Ellis and Bridget raised a family primarily in Bothwell. Their children were William (1854), Alick (1855), Zillah (1857), Margaret (1859), and James (1862). The family experienced hardship, including the death of their daughter Zillah in 1868. Bridget died in 1880 at Campbell Town, aged 47. Ellis later moved to Hobart, where he died in 1885 at the age of 60 and was buried at Cornelian Bay Cemetery.
