10 October 1843: Quarter Sessions, Norwich, Norfolk, England. Convicted of stealing a spade; sentenced to 10 years' transportation. Gaol Report: 2 convictions, single. Stated his offence: "Stealing a spade, prosecutor James Godhin at Tasburgh; for pigeons, 12 months; for trespass, 1 month. Single." [1]

20 January 1844: Departed from Woolwich, Kent, England aboard the Equestrian. [2]

1 May 1844: Arrived in Hobart, Van Diemen's Land, Australia. Conduct report: orderly. Description: Trade: butcher; height: 5' 5¾"; age: 23; complexion: fresh; head: oval; hair: reddish; whiskers: none; visage: oval; forehead: medium high; eyebrows: sandy; eyes: hazel; nose: long, thin; mouth and chin: medium; native place: Essex; remarks: freckled; tattooed; Protestant; can read and write. 19 January 1848: Logan, Bothwell; hired by Archibald McDowall. [1]

7 August 1848: Lower Court, Bothwell. Passholder, Equestrian, 10 years, service of Mr McDowall, 3rd class, cannot read or write. Charged on complaint of Constable William Clark with having been absent without leave on the 6th August. Pleaded guilty. Found guilty and admonished. [3]

23 April 1849: Logan, Bothwell; hired by Archibald McDowall. [1]

3 July 1849: Ticket of Leave approved. [1]

6 December 1853: Certificate of Freedom approved. [1]

29 August 1854: Ellis Love, a 29-year-old sawyer, married Bridget O'Loughlan, aged 21, in Hobart; witnesses: Ellen Gray and W. Jiles. [4]

23 June 1856: Lower Court, Bothwell. Free by servitude; aged 31; can read and write imperfectly. Charged on oath of William Denholm with having on the 16th June inst., at Bothwell, unlawfully assaulted and beat him contrary to the Statute Law. Fully committed for trial at Oatlands, subsequently admitted to bail. [5]
