BOTHWELL. Account of an inquest held here yesterday afternoon. The young man, whose name was James Hinchy, was very much respected by all who knew him. An inquest was held at the Council Chamber, Bothwell, on Tuesday, the 9th August, before N P Allison, Esq, coroner, and a respectable jury, of which Mr E Bowden was foreman, to inquire into the cause of death of James Hinchy, who was in the employ of W Nicholas, Esq, Nant, and had the charge of an entire horse, a perfectly quiet and docile animal. It appeared that on Monday afternoon the deceased was leading him out for exercise, when he became restive, and the deceased gave him a cut with the whip, and the horse immediately jumped forward and lashed out both hind feet, and kicked deceased in the right side and knocked him down. He was at once picked up and taken to his quarters by a young man who was standing by, the deceased at the same time saying "I am done for." His master having been informed of the accident, that gentleman at once sent for medical aid, and on Dr Dickson's arrival, which was several hours after the accident, he considered it a hopeless case, and in fact said that had he been present at the time of the accident he could not have given him any relief. The deceased lingered in great pain until about 11 o'clock am, when he died. The doctor gave his opinion that deceased came to his death through internal bleeding caused by the sharp end of a broken rib penetrating the groin. The jury gave a verdict accordingly. Mr Nicholas was present at the inquest, and expressed his sincere regret in most feeling language at the loss of so trustworthy a servant. From a Correspondent, August 10. (5)
