About 1800 - Richard Hill was born, date and place unknown. (1)

March 6, 1827 - Richard was convicted in Oxford, Oxfordshire, England of sheep stealing and was sentenced to life transportation to Van Diemen's Land, Australia. Gaol Report - unknown. He stated his offence as "Stealing a sheep, tried with Roads & Lisney. Father & mother dead. I was last working for Mr Woodhouse, Derby. Single." (2)

August 1, 1827 - The barque Asia II departed from London, England with 160 male convicts on board, including Richard, bound for Hobart. His hulk report prior to departure was orderly. (3)

November 30, 1827 - Arrived in Hobart after a voyage of 3 months, 29 days, (3)

April 7, 1829 - Sarah Bale, daughter of John Bale and Ann Hovell, was born in Norwich, Norfolk, England. (4)

May 24, 1829 - Sarah was baptised in Norwich, Norfolk, England. (5)

1832 - Richard, assigned to Captain Patrick Wood, attended muster at Bothwell. (6)

1833 - Richard, assigned to Captain Patrick Wood, attended muster at Bothwell. (7)

April 25, 1834 - Richard attended muster at Bothwell. (2)

January 26, 1836 - Ticket of Leave aprroved for Richard. (2)

April 14, 1840 - Richard recieved his Conditional Pardon. (2)

October 20, 1845 - Ann and Sarah arrived in Hobart on board the Louisa. Although Sarah is not named on the shipping list, it is preusmed she arrived with her mother Ann (Hovell) Bale. (8)

August 10, 1847 - Richard Hill, 47-year-old farmer, married Sarah Bale, a 20-year-old spinster, at St Luke's Church in Bothwell according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the United Church of England and Ireland. Witnessed by Daniel Hunt and Margaret Hunt. (9)

DISTRICT OF BOTHWELL. We, the Undersigned Householders and Landowners in the district of Bothwell, do hereby convene a public meeting of the Householders and Landowners of the district, in the school-room, Bothwell, on Saturday, the 10th of November, at twelve o'clock for the purpose of electing road trustees, also to fix the rate of assessment to be charged upon and paid by the several owners and occupiers of lands, messuages, and dwelling houses within the district, and also to take into consideration the necessity of obtaining a new line of road through the estate of Woodlands, under the authority of the Act of Council 13th Victoria, No 5, intituled "An Act for making and maintaining the road leading from the township of Bothwell to the main road, and for making, repairing, and maintaining other roads in the district of Bothwell. February 28, 1853 - Sarah served as a witness at the marriage of Frederick Price and Jane Tigard at St Luke's Church in Bothwell. (18)

April 10, 1853 - Richard departed Launceston on board the Yarra Yarra bound for the goldfields in Melbourne - R Hill, Asia II, free by servitude. (19)

December 23, 1853 - Edward Hill died in Bothwell at the age of 3 from convulsions, as reported by his grandfather, John Bale, on December 27 (20). He was buried at Bothwell Cemetery. (21)

January 14, 1855 - Alfred Hill was born in Bothwell, as reported by his grandmother, Ann (Hovell) Bale, on January 27. (22)

January 30, 1855 - Alfred was baptised in Bothwell. (23)

March 10, 1859 - Mary Ann Hill was born in Bothwell, as reported by her grandmother Ann (Hovell) Bale on March 29. (28)

April 6, 1859 - Mary was baptised in Bothwell. (29)

July 6, 1859 - Richard donated £1 to the Wesleyan Chapel building fund. (30)

November 9, 1860 - Henry Hill died in Bothwell at the age of 3 from measles and a sore throat, as reported by his grandfather, John Bale, on November 10 (31). He was buried at Bothwell Cemetery. (32)

November 16, 1860 - Alfred Hill died in Bothwell at the age of 5 from diphtheria, as reported by his grandfather, John Bale, on November 16 (33). He was buried at Bothwell Cemetery. (34)

May 13, 1861 - Sarah served as a witness at the marriage of Peter Davie and Mary Ann Miller at St Luke's Church in Bothwell. (38)

November 19, 1861 - [1-I5] High St. Samuel Pitt (occupier), Richard Hill (owner, Dennistoun), house, ground, annual rateable value £10 8s. (39)

May 8, 1862 - Louisa Maria Hill was born in Bothwell as reported by her grandmother, Ann (Hovell) Bale, on May 17. (40)

June 3, 1862 - Louisa was baptised in Bothwell. (41)

December 10, 1862: Richard Hill, a shepherd, died of jaundice at the age of 62 at Dennistoun in Bothwell, as registered by William Blackburn Wood, his employer on the property (1). He was buried at the General Cemetery in Bothwell. (42)
