About 1816 - Anne Tarr was born in Gloucestershire, England. (1)

About 1820 - John Cooper, the son of James Cooper, was born in Stepney, Middlesex, England. (2)

29 Nov 1841 - John Cooper was convicted of housebreaking and larceny by the Central Criminal Court in London and sentenced to 10 years transportation. Gaol Report - Convicted before. He stated his offence as: "Housebreaking and stealing bedding, prosecutor George Road; once for desk, 12 months at House of Correction." 2

14 Aug 1842 - The barque Moffat left Plymouth, Devon, England with 390 convicts on board, including John, bound for Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. His hulk report prior to departing was good. (2,3)

28 Nov 1842 - When John arrived in Hobart after a three-month, fourteen-day voyage, his conduct was reported as orderly. He was described as a single, 21-year-old plasterer and stenciller, who could read and write. He stood 4' 11½" tall, with a fair complexion, oval head, brown hair and eyes, black whiskers and eyebrows. His face was oval, with a medium-height forehead, medium nose and mouth, and a dimpled chin. He had a scar on his left cheek and a smaller one on the right side of his forehead. His father, James, and brothers, Alfred and James, lived in his native place of Stepney. (2,4)

28 Nov 1844 - John was released from his first stage of probation. (2)

31 Jan 1846 - John was employed by William Chester in Bothwell for one month. (2)

5 Apr 1847 - John attended muster in Bothwell. (2)

21 Dec 1847 - John's Ticket of Leave was approved. (2)

7 Nov 1848 - John was recommended for his Conditional Pardon. (2)

22 Apr 1849 - David Henry Tarr, the son of Ann Tarr, was baptised in Somerset, England. (47)

21 Jun 1849 - Anne Tarr was convicted at the Quarter Sessions in Bath, Somerset, England of felony and a previous conviction and was sentenced to 10 years transportation. Gaol Report - thrice felony. She stated her offence as "Pledging counterpane and drys, prosecutor Garret, committed the offence from extreme distress; 1 day for a shirt. Widow, 1 child David." (1)

19 Dec 1849 - The ship St Vincent departed Downs, England with 207 female convicts on board, including Ann and her son David, bound for Van Diemen's Land, Australia.. (5)

5 Feb 1850 - Conditional Pardon approved for John. (2)

4 Apr 1850 - Arriving in Hobart after a three-month, sixteen-day voyage, Anne's conduct was reported as very good. She was described as a 37-year-old widow, professed cook, and a Protestant who could read and write. She stood 5' 4½" tall with a pale freckled complexion, a small head and visage with brown hair and eyebrows and dark hazel eyes. Her forehead and chin were large, her nose small and mouth wide. (1)

4 Mar 1851 - Permission to marry approved for John Cooper, free, and Ann Tarr, St Vincent. (6)

26 Mar 1851 - John Cooper, a 31-year-old plasterer, married Anne Tarr, a 35-year-old needlewoman, at the Minister's House in Bothwell according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Church of Scotland. Witnessed by Mary Wicks and Henry Lewis. (7)

12 Jul 1851: William Alfred Cooper was born in Bothwell, as reported by his father John on August 7. (8)

2 Mar 1852: William was baptised in Bothwell. (9)

7 Sep 1852 - John received his Certificate of Freedom. (2)

30 Sep 1852 - John James Cooper was born in Bothwell, as reported by his mother Anne on November 8. (10)

27 Dec 1852 - John was baptised in Bothwell. (11)

24 Jun 1853 - Anne attended muster in Bothwell. (1)

28 May 1855 - Bothwell Lower Court. John Cooper, free by servitude, neither read nor write.
Charged on complaint of the Chief District Constable John Brown with having been drunk in the public street at Bothwell on May 26, the same being the first offence under the Act. Pleaded guilty. Found guilty and fined £1. Charged with assaulting John Brown in the execution of his duty. Pleaded guilty. Found guilty and fined £2. (12)

9 Sep 1871 - John James Cooper, a 19-year-old bachelor and farm labourer, married Annie Maria Swindells, a 19-year-old spinster, at St Luke's Church in Bothwell according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Church of England by Banns. Witnessed by David Henry Tarr and Emma Jane O'Hearn. (23)

20 Mar 1874 - Anne (Tarr) Cooper died in Bothwell at the age of 58 of phthisis, as reported by her husband John on March 24. She was buried at Bothwell Cemetery. (24, 25)

18 Jan 1875 - William Alfred Cooper, a 23-year-old bachelor and labourer, married Margaret McCarthy, a 19-year-old spinster, at St Stephen's Catholic Church, Hamilton according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Catholic Church by Banns. Witnessed by John Best and Rosina McCarthy. Margaret McCarthy, the daughter of Peter McCarthy and Jane Gardener, was born on February 29, 1856 in Hamilton. (28)

26 Jul 1875 - Frederick Robert Cooper, a 21-year-old bachelor and labourer, married Hannah Mary Clay, a 21-year-old spinster and servant, at St Luke's Church in Bothwell according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Church of England by Banns. Witnessed by John Cooper and Anna Maria Cooper. Hannah, the daughter of Richard Clay and Bridget Allen, was born on August 12, 1854 in Brighton. (29)
